Ken Dusenberry gives a lesson and demontration of 19th century artillery March 24, 2018 during the annual Civil War Encampment held by the Pecos National Historical Park. Dusenberry noted that firing a canon could be very accurate with skilled soldiers and though soldiers could fire up to 5 times a minute, they were usually instructed to fire at a much slower pace to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of the shots taken. The event is held to help facilitate education of the Civil war fighters in New Mexico as well as to give a glimpse into life at the time. This year, a plaque dedicated to Lt. Manuel Antonio Chavez was presented as a memorial to Chavez and others who fought alongside him during the Battle of Glorieta Pass (March 26-28, 1862).
